Reliance Jio in talks with Qualcomm to launch laptops with cellular connectivity: Following the smartphone and 4G feature phones, a laptop with a SIM card can be the next big bet to increase its average revenue per user (ARPU) for Reliance Jio.
Jio Laptop Is Coming – Are You Ready For A 4G Connected Laptop?
Senior Director of Product Management, QualmM Technologies, Miguel Nunes said that Geo can take the device and bundle it with data and content. Qualcomm is already working on ‘always connected PC’, such as with global brands like HP, Asus and Lenovo. Already 14 operators have already included AT & T, Sprint and Verizon in the US, as well as major operators of UK, Australia, Germany, France and Italy.
Jio Laptop – Things You Need To Know
The Jio laptop will come with Windows 10 and a Qualcomm processor inside.
Work will be done in collaboration with US-based chipset manufacturer Qualcomm to manufacture live branded laptops. In the past, companies have teamed up with Google to work together for a low-end Android Go 4G smartphone. JIO laptop and smartphone can see the day of light simultaneously.
Built-in Cellular Connectivity
Jio laptops will come with Reliance Connectivity built-in cellular connectivity. The device will support 4G connectivity, which means that users do not need to rely on any external source of WiFi or connectivity to connect to the Internet
Jio laptops come in Qualcomm chipsets and run Windows 10 from the box. With the integration of AI-based Cortana and latest features, Windows 10 laptops have performed better than the fastest running laptop and operating systems.
How Will Laptops Help Jio?
With the already established market, the inclusion of laptops will help increase the average revenue per user (ARPU). With no cellular laptop available in the Indian market, Reliance Jio will have the first mover advantage.
According to the counterpoint data, telecom operators can be connected to 20 percent of the total laptops sold in India in just one year. If Jio is planning to launch a special tariff plan for laptops, then it can generate revenue of $ 50 million (30 million rupees) per month from these laptops.
Why Jio’s Plan With Laptops May Fail?
Reliance Jio is primarily targeting users to use data with their laptops. But if data is the primary requirement, then the user can always use a mobile hotspot or portable WiFi device, which uses only cheap Jio connections.
So, users buying a laptop just for cellular connection might turn out to be a costly proposition for Jio.
Unless Jio has something actually useful to offer, Jio laptops may not work at all.
